This example comes from a wife who was concerned about the number of used parts and assemblies utilized in the repair of the family sedan.

Retail Value on the Date of Loss:  $15,525

Cost of Repair:  $9,478

Although the craftsmanship of the repair was pretty good...

The right strut tower had the VIN from the donor vehicle...

...paint peeling showing the white paint of the donor vehicle

A broken bolt in the hood latch was a concern...

White tracing shows the area of the used structural splice...

When Consumers' Auto Detective checked with the manufacturer it was determined that no welding should be done in the wheelhouse to firewall area because of special "laminate" steel used in the firewall.

Unfortunately as seen in the photo above, the six yellow circles above surround mig welds that attach the wheelhouse to the firewall.  This process robs the specialized laminate steel of its strength rendering the subject vehicle UNSAFE!

When presented with the Consumers' Auto Detective Report this major insurer immediately purchased the vehicle from the consumer.
